Biodiversity and Conservation

Protecting native species, habitats and ecosystems across Southern Queensland.

Southern Queensland is home to an extraordinary diversity of native plants, animals and ecosystems that support the health of our environment and the wellbeing of our communities. Southern Queensland Landscapes works alongside landholders, First Nations communities, researchers, industry and government to protect and restore these valuable natural assets.

Our Biodiversity and Conservation projects improve habitat connectivity, protect threatened species, restore waterways and wetlands, and manage invasive weeds and pest animals. Through practical, science-based conservation, we help ensure Southern Queensland's unique landscapes continue to thrive for future generations.

Key Outcomes

Threatened Species Conservation

Protecting vulnerable native species through habitat restoration, monitoring and targeted conservation programs that improve long-term population resilience.

Habitat Restoration

Restoring and reconnecting native vegetation to create healthy, functioning ecosystems that support biodiversity and strengthen landscape resilience.

Waterways and Wetlands

Improving the health of rivers, creeks and nationally significant wetlands by restoring riparian vegetation, protecting aquatic habitats and supporting healthy catchments.

Pest and Weed Management

Reducing the impact of invasive weeds and pest animals through coordinated, landscape-scale management that protects native species, agricultural productivity and ecosystem health.

Monitoring and Research

Using scientific monitoring, emerging technologies and collaborative research to better understand our natural environment and guide effective conservation management.
